Al Capone is one of the most famous men in American history and the most famous man in Chicago history. His gang of fellow criminals were referred to as the “Chicago Outfit” and then subsequently became known as the “Capone’s”. The were responsible for bootlegging, smuggling, prostitution and other illegal activities in Chicago in the years spanning from 1920 to 1931. Getting himself arrested on a very minor charge and being imprisoned for a few months would allow him to lay low for a while. The FBI seized this capitalized on this chance and Al ended up being imprisoned for a year. During which the FBI collected evidence on him for the charge of tax evasion. Capone, expecting a light sentence for cooperation, plead guilty. The judge however decided not to accept his plea and set a trial date.
After being released in November of 1939 he lived the rest of his life in relative peace, dying of a heart attack in January 1948.
